Committee Reports:

SCoN Report – Dr. Ken McGill

The election results for 2012 – 2013 GC Senate are now complete with one or two exceptions.  Dr. McGill is meeting with Interim President Stas Preczewski later today and will receive the presidential appointments to the Senate.  Provost Dr. Sandra Jordan will also be submitting her committee assignments. At this time Dr. McGill is still waiting for the Student Government Association results.

Jay Lancaster will be setting up the polling for Senators to indicate their committee preferences. Committee assignments will be finalized at the next ECUS/SCC meeting on April 13th. New Senators will be invited to the April 27th Senate meeting which will be at 2pm, followed by committee meetings at 3pm.  It is hoped that committee meetings can also be held in A&S.

Provost’s Report – Dr. Sandra Jordan

Dr. Jordan reported on the recent trip to India.  She reported that GC has signed agreements with four universities.  The most promising agreement is with the University of Bangalore, and equivalent to our R1 research university. It is hoped that we will see some faculty exchanges and perhaps research collaborations.

Dr. Jordan also reported that the state has just rolled out the Complete College Georgia plan. This plan a limited potential to effect our university, but the following are areas that are being put forward and encouraged in the plan:

Military Friendly Institutions

Adult Learning

Online Program

Retention, Progression, and Graduation (RPG) is being rolled into the Complete College Georgia Plan.

Dr. Jordan reported that over the next few months as new SACS standards are reviewed, it is anticipated that the standards will require new policies and procedures. These will be released as the work progresses.

President’s Report – Dr. Stas Preczewski

GC has purchased OSU Faculty Salary Survey and this information will be used to look at GC faculty salaries.  It is important that the information in this study be reviewed in the proper context. There are no institutions in the study that are equivalent to GC.  The lowest institution is equivalent to our R1.  The faculty salary adjustment will be funded beginning July 1.

The Climate Survey had a 70% response rate.  President. Preczewski hopes to release the objective date by April 15th.  The open-ended comments will take several weeks to code and sterilize.

GC is hiring an outside consultant to help analyze the data from a number of surveys that have been completed recently:  HURRY Survey, Climate Survey, and the Diversity Survey.  The analysis of all of these will assist with strategic planning.

President Preczewski reported that the Staff and Faculty Campaign response more than doubled from last year, with a very impressive 61%.

Commencement is on track and has been streamlined.  This year there will be two lines of students to shorten the length of time for this portion of the ceremony.  Bleachers have been added to facilitate guests’ ability to see. There will be a reception following the ceremony.

Unfinished Business

Dr. Catherine Whelan will continue to explore options for the August 8th Senate Retreat with the retreat planning committee.  Dr. Whelan will have specific information to report at the April 27th Senate meeting when the new Senators are present.
