Agreements:

Paul Jahr reviewed the current process being used by the Office of Student Affairs in the implementation of the Student Amnesty Policy.  Paul noted that there is a misimpression by some students that amnesty applied to outside authorities such as local law enforcement.  Joe Grant reported an inconsistency between the Student Amnesty Policy and some faculty members' understanding of the policy.  It was noted that the intent of the policy is to eliminate barriers for students who seek medical attention when the situation arises from a violation of the GCSU Code of Conduct, such as drugs and alcohol abuse.

After a lengthy discussion, the following modifications to the policy were approved.

1.      Change the name of the policy to Judicial Board Amnesty Policy to clearly define the scope of the policy.

2.      Move the discussion of the scope of the policy to the beginning of the document to reinforce the limitation of amnesty to GCSU judicial adjudication.

3.      The policy will be modified to clearly state that amnesty applies to both the individual calling for medical assistance and the individual needing medical assistance.

Action Items:

Diane Chamblee is charged with reviewing (wordsmithing) the Philosophy section.

Cynthia Cano was charged with reviewing the policy for clarity and organization.

The revised Policy will be distributed to SAPC members for final review.
