Subcommittee on Core Curriculum Minutes 2012-11-07

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by John Swinton at 12 noon in Arts & Sciences Room 216.

Action Items

MFLG (All Modern Foreign Language) 1002, 2001, and 2002 for Global Overlay
The committee continued discussion on a proposal from Modern Foreign Language and Cultures to add each of the 1002, 2001, and 2002 courses to the global overlay. Discussion continued to address whether or not the addition of these courses would provide sufficient increase in global content for the students in BA/BS programs. Discussion will continue on this topic at the next meeting.

Discussion Items

Name of the Core
The committee continued discussion on the name of the core curriculum. Additional information regarding discussions on the core curriculum name from the 2010-2011 academic year was distributed to committee members prior to the meeting. Part of the 2010-2011 University Curriculum Committee Charge was to identify an engaging name for the core curriculum; “the CUBE” was the name that was presented to the Provost from that committee. After additional discussion, the committee voted to formally recommend that the Georgia College Core Curriculum be named “the CUBE.” The motion carried with a vote of 9-0-0.

The committee will meet on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 12 noon, in A&S 216.
