Subcommittee on Core Curriculum Minutes 2013-02-06

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by John Swinton at 12 noon in Arts & Sciences Room 216.

Action Items

GC2Y 2000 The AIDS Epidemic as an Area B2 Section (Revision)
After review, the committee approved this section with a vote of 9-0-0. This course will now be forwarded to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.

GC2Y 2000 Understanding Islam: The Muslim World and the West as an Area B2 Section
The committee reviewed the section proposal and requested some revisions to the outcome statements to facilitate future assessment. The committee also asked for clarification regarding the fourth hour.

GC1y 1000 Pop Culture and Baseball as an Area B1 Section
The committee reviewed the section proposal and requested some revisions to facilitate future assessment.

GC1Y 1000 Information Literacy for Future Health Professionals as an Area B1 Section and GC2Y 2000 Global Aging as an Area B2 Section
The committee began discussion on these two proposals. The committee expressed concerns that the proposals appeared to be intended primarily for students who intend to major in the health professions. These sections need to serve the entire campus and not be intended for majors or major preparation. Discussion will continue at the next meeting.

The committee will meet on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at 12 noon, in A&S 216.
