Subcommittee on Core Curriculum Minutes 2013-02-13

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by John Swinton at 12 noon in Arts & Sciences Room 216.

Action Items

GC2Y 2000 Water and Society as an Area B2 Section
Upon review, the committee approved this section with a vote of 9-0-0. This section will now be forwarded to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.

GC1Y 1000 Information Literacy for Future Health Professionals as an Area B1 Section
The committee continued discussion on this proposal. The primary concern was that the course was too narrowly focused and appears to be solely for future health science professionals. All GC1Y courses need to be open to all students and have a more universal appeal. The committee suggested a title change to emphasize that the course was open to students outside the Health Sciences or Nursing. The committee also offered some recommendations related to the outcome statements.

GC2Y 2000 Global Aging as an Area B2 Section
The committee recommended some changes to the outcome statements to facilitate future assessment, and to emphasize that the course is writing intensive.

The committee will meet on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at 12 noon, in A&S 216.
