Subcommittee on Core Curriculum Minutes 2013-04-03

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by John Swinton at 12:00 p.m. in Arts & Sciences Room 216.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes from March 20 were approved with one correction.

Action Item

GC1Y 1000 Concepts of Learning/Concepts of Imagination as an Area B1 Section (Resubmission)
Upon review, the committee approved the course with a vote of 7-0-0, contingent on a minor change to one of the outcome statements. If this change is made and accepted, the section will be forwarded to CAPC and University Senate as an action item.

Discussion Item

Assessment of Core Curriculum
At the committee’s April 17th meeting, we will discuss assessment of the core curriculum. We need to have a tangible product from SoCC that includes our recommendations for core assessment. We also need to look at the data and decide if it is giving us the information we need to make informed decisions about the core. The committee began in initial discussion regarding the scales used on the core rubrics. During this discussion, the committee recommended having conversations with core faculty during Assessment Day.

The committee will meet on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 12 noon, in A&S 216.
