Regrets: Kevin Crabb, Amy Sumpter

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the April 3, 10, and 17 meetings were distributed. Members were asked to submit corrections for these three sets of minutes and the minutes for this meeting by April 25.

Discussion Items

John reviewed a list of courses for which revisions have not been received. These proposals will now be closed. If faculty members want to pursue these proposals in the future, they will need to resubmit these proposals. These proposals will be closed:
• GC1Y 1000 Information Literacy for Future Health Professionals
• GC2Y 2000 Colonialism and Post Colonialism in the Global Age
• GC2Y 2000 Global Aging
• GC2Y 2000 Global Chaos and the Music of the Spheres
• GC2y 2000 Quest for Adventure
• NRSG 3560 Community as Client for Global Overlay
• NRSG 4660 Community and Population Based Care for Global Overlay
• WMST 2010 Women in Society for Global Overlay

John is preparing the committee’s annual report. The committee also discussed some recommendations for next year, including:
• Review the purpose of reviewing outcomes for courses, especially in the context of assessment.
• Possibly requiring syllabi as part of the course proposal submission for clarification and information purposes.
• Clarifying the difference between the out-of-class experience and fourth year for GC2Y courses.
Action Item

KINS 4333/WMST 4950 Sex, Gender, and Sexology in the 20th Century for the Global Overlay
Upon review, the committee approved KINS 4333 with a vote of 7-0-0, one revision, to which the submitted agreed. This course will now be forwarded to CAPC and University Senate as information items. WMST 4950 was not approved, as this course is a topics section and does not have a permanent course number. However, the committee agreed that, as soon as this course is assigned a permanent number in WMST, the global overlay could be added to this cross-listed course.

GC2Y 2000 Global Race Relations as an Area B2 Section
Members of the committee expressed concerns regarding the writing component and fourth hour components of the course. Upon a vote, the committee decided to return the proposal for revision. This course will also be among the courses that will need to be resubmitted next year.

Next Meeting

The committee will not meet until fall 2013. The Chair of CAPC, after he or she is elected later this month, will call the committee’s organizational meeting.

Adjournment

The committee adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
