No minutes to approve. These will be circulated via email for last week (4/16/14) and this week (4/23/14). We will vote electronically if we do not meet next week, 4/30. If we meet next week, it’ll be in Terrell 114. We will meet if we receive any proposals.

Amy asked if we should make D2L environment available to all chairs. Caralyn Zehender provided some feedback. We’ll discuss this further at the end of the meeting.

Proposal: GC2Y Diversity in Education: Belize Study Abroad
Committee discussed proposal and Lyndall Muschell answered questions regarding the proposal such as those related to the writing component of the course. Scott pointed out that this is clearly interdisciplinary. A member posed a question- Will non-education students be at a disadvantage taking this course? Answer: no, not at all. This really could actually benefit students of all majors. Provided some examples. Anothere question was if any other non-education majors have gone on this trip? Answer: No, it has never been opened up for anyone outside of the COE. Will you now? Yes, this is the intention of making it an Area B course. John called the vote. Committee voted unanimously to approve the course.

Proposal: ENSC 1050 for Global Perspectives overlay
We considered and approved this course last week for Area D. Proposal this week is for the Global Perspectives overlay. John provided a summary of the proposal. There were no questions from the committee. Vote called. Vote seconded. Committee unanimously approved.

Revisited discussion from last week regarding the endorsement of a sustainability minor. Committee decided that this isn’t really and endorsement. Committee provided suggestions on wording regarding SoCC’s support of this to read at the University Senate meeting on Friday, April 25. The statement will read:
SoCC supports the cooperation of interested faculty across campus to develop a sustainability minor.

Discussion regarding the D2L environment led to the decision that it should be opened up for everyone. It seems ready.

Meeting adjourned.
