Subcommittee on Core Curriculum Minutes 2014-11-07

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Julia Metzker at 1:05 p.m. in Arts & Sciences 2-51.

Agenda

The agenda was approved as distributed.

Minutes

The minutes from the October 31th meeting were approved as distributed.

Discussion Items and Announcements

Core Survey. The core survey is going to go up using some new software for which GC recently obtained a site license. Julia will notify the group when the survey is ready to post.

GC2Y Big Data Follow-Up. Kevin Elder contacted Julia and mentioned that he will probably wait to submit revisions until next semester.

New Business

NRSG 3560 and 4660 for the Global Overlay. The committee agree that the courses appeared to meet the outcomes for the global overlay. During discussion, the committee agreed that we would take a question that is on the global overlay form and add it to GC2Y form. The committee also discussed that these course descriptions should probably also be revised to clearly indicate that the course includes global content; this condition will be shared with the department when the decision is communicated. Upon a voice vote, these courses were approved for the global overlay with a vote of 9-0-0.

As a result of the conversation about whether course descriptions should be revised when a course is approved for the global overlay, Julia will add this as a suggestion when she sends confirmation emails after
