Agenda
An amendment to add GC2y 2000 Black Women Artists and GC1Y 1000 War Literature to the agenda so they could be available for registration was approved. The remainder of the agenda was approved as distributed.
Minutes
The minutes from the February 20th and February 27th meeting were approved, each with one correction.
Action Item
GC2Y 2000 Cultural Violence as an Area B2 Section and a Global Overlay Course (Resubmission)
Brandon Samples reported back on the items that were discussed at the meeting on February 20. The submitter has returned clarification about the questions. Some concerns were expressed regarding the length of writing required and that the writing was part of a group project. Upon a vote, this section was approved without dissent.
THEA 1105 Theatrical Heritage as a Global Overlay Course
After discussion, the course was approved without dissent. Because this course is in Area A-E, following approval by the Provost, this submission will need to be submitted to the USG General Education Committee for approval.
GC2Y 2000 Black Women Artists of the African Diaspora as an Area B2 Section and a Global Overlay Course
The committee discussed the lack of outcomes for the course. Upon a vote, the committee decided to send the course back for revisions, specifically learning outcomes. To facilitate this course being available for registration, the committee agreed to vote by email if these were received prior to next week’s meeting.
GC1y 1000 War Literature as an Area B1 Section
Upon discussion, the committee approved the course without dissent.
Discussion Item
The committee discussed feeling pressured to approve several courses at the last minute in order to clear courses for registration and recommended that, in the future, it would be good to publish a deadline of at least two weeks prior to registration in order to minimize so many last minute submissions. The committee also discussed the need to remain flexible when sections were needed.
State of the Core and Core Survey. Cara distributed a set of ten themes that occurred frequently in the core survey and asked committee members to review it during the upcoming week.
Domestic Diversity Pilot. We have received one course to pilot the domestic diversity course for Spring 2015. It is a section of EDUC 2120. This instructor has agreed to use a rubric for domestic diversity and collect some data during this term. The students enrolled in the course will receive credit toward one of their global overlay requirements as a result of taking this course.
Next Meeting
The committee will not meet on March 13. March 20 is Spring Break. The committee’s next meeting will be Friday, March 27, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in Arts & Sciences 2-51.
Adjournment
The committee adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
