Call to Order

The Subcommittee on Core Curriculum was called to order by Mary Magoulick at 1:00 p.m. in Arts & Sciences 2-51.

Agenda

The agenda was approved as distributed.

Membership Update

Ruth Carter is on leave for the Spring semester and will be replaced by Clif Wilkinson. His appointment will be confirmed at an upcoming University Senate meeting. Noland White will be replaced as the Provost’s representative. Doug Goings teaches at our meeting time and will need to be replaced. Dana Wood will participate by phone starting in March.

Minutes

The minutes from the January 15th meeting were approved with one correction. There was no meeting on January 22nd due to the university being closed that afternoon for inclement weather.

Discussion Items

Core Overlays. The LARP Steering Committee has asked for the opportunity to give feedback to SoCC before we make any recommendations on the pending system overlay requirement. The committee continued to discuss the importance and significance of those overlays in our curriculum and options for continuing or discontinuing them.

Website. Brandon discussed the difficulty of getting all the syllabi collected for the website and with providing examples since there have been so many previous versions of the submission form. The committee decided to just put a few of the courses on the website as examples. We will decide which courses to include at our next meeting.

Scheduling. Please remind faculty in your area that we need to get 1Y and 2Y approvals done soon if they plan to offer them in Fall 2016. We will start Fall 2016 freshmen registration next week.

Next Meeting

The committee will meet on February 5, 2016, in A&S 2-51, at 1:00 PM.
