Cara discussed the efforts underway to strategically reconsider reducing the number of outcomes. The committee generally agreed that minimizing the number of outcomes would be a positive move for the university. Cara will bring a proposal for this committee’s endorsement to its next meeting. Announcements Our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 26, at 8:30 a.m. in Arts & Sciences 315. At that meeting, the first topics will be the proposal to strategically reduce the number of general education learning outcomes and how to address the fourth hour of credit for the GC2Y courses. Adjournment
This proposal incorporated the feedback given at the previous meeting. Upon a vote, this section was approved 7-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
After discussion, the committee recommended that one outcome be removed because it would be difficult to assess, and that another outcome be amended to specifically include a verb. Discussion also followed about whether the department understood that these courses would not be able to be offered as major courses if they were converted to GC2Y courses. Upon a vote, these sections were approved 7-0-0. John Swinton will follow-up with the department to ensure that they are ready to take the existing sections of these courses out of the University catalog. If so, these sections will be forward to CAPC and University Senate as information items.
After discussion, the committee requested that the outcomes be revised to ensure that they are assessable. The committee will ask one of the College of Arts & Science representatives from the University Assessment Team to serve as a resource for the submitter, and encourage resubmission after revisions are made.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 a.m.
