Action Item
GC2Y 2000 Ethics and What We Eat as an Area B2 Section (Resubmission)
Upon review, the committee approved the proposal as revised with a vote of 7-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
GC2Y 2000 Crossroads as an Area B2 Section (Resubmission)
Upon review, the committee make the following recommendations: strike the presented global outcomes and move the fourth learning outcome for the course to the global outcomes to facilitate future assessment; clarify the writing overlay outcomes and focus on what will be assessed; review, simplify, and edit the course description; identify only one topic for each section instead of several broad topics; and, under the fourth hour learning beyond the classroom requirements, change the reference to the IDST Symposium to focus on submission to the program, not necessarily participation in the program. Kevin Crabb will review the suggested revisions with the submitter.
GC2Y 2000 Global Cinema as an Area B2 Section
Upon review, the committee recommended that the submitter change the wording of the outcomes to use “explain” rather than “approach,” and that the submitter delete the third B2 outcome. The committee also recommended that the submitter clarify that the theoretical frameworks will be from different cultures. Within the writing overlays, the instructor should combine into one outcome and use a verb such as “apply” rather than respond.
GC2Y 2000 Shakespeare in the World as an Area B2 Section
Upon review, the committee made the following suggestions for the course. First, the committee recommended that the submitter simplify outcomes to include only one verb in each outcome, and that she clarify the number of approaches used to explain Shakespearean adaptations, either by eliminating the “at least” or by simply stating the approaches. The outcome that begins with “synthesize through writing the relationship between the selected intellectual approaches…” needs to be moved to the writing overlay area or deleted. The committee approved the proposal as revised with a vote of 7-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
GC2Y 2000 South Asian Sexuality as an Area B2 Section
Upon review, the committee recommended that the submitter reduce the verbs in each outcome to one. The instructor should also review the writing overlays and eliminate references to specific assignments, so further review will not be needed if the instructor later decides to change assignments. Include some examples of topics in the section information.
As each of these revisions are submitted, the committee agreed to vote by email to facilitate prompt entry of these courses on the Fall 2012 course schedule.
