University Curriculum Committee Minutes 2012-03-08

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by John Swinton at 8:30 a.m., in Arts & Sciences Room 315.

Minutes
The committee approved the minutes of March 1 as distributed.

Action Item
GC2Y 2000 South Asian Sexuality as an Area B2 Section (Resubmission)
Upon review, the committee approved the proposal as revised with a vote of 7-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.

GC2Y 2000 Global Cinema as an Area B2 Section (Resubmission)
Upon review, the committee approved the proposal as revised with a vote of 7-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.

ACCT 3110 International Accounting for the Global Overlay (Resubmission)
Upon review, the committee approved the proposal with a vote of 7-0-0. This course will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item. Because this course will not be used in the core curriculum, it will not need to go to the system for additional approval.

Discussion Items
The committee reviewed feedback received from the GC1Y Assessment Forums. About half of the faculty teaching GC1Y courses this year attended, with others submitting the questionnaire if they couldn’t attend. Overall, the faculty who attended indicated that they appreciated the opportunity to discuss and share experiences from their classes, and would like more of these opportunities in the future. There appear to already be many good measures in place for assessment. The committee suggested holding at least one such gathering each year, and possibly a breakout session during Assessment Day.
