Discussion Item
After reviewing courses to this point, there was a suggestion from a committee member to put a guidance document on the website containing some of the following: verbs used in writing outcomes, information regarding outcomes and what the committee is looking for, and information on how to write course topics.
SACS Update
This committee has a part in contributing to our SACS Decennial Review. John Swinton briefly went over UCC’s duties and assignment.
Additional Action Items
GC1Y 1000 The New Biology: Promise and Peril as an Area B1 course
Discussion on this course included the fact that it seemed very ambitious. Course outcomes do map to B1, but the committee will forward a friendly suggestion that there are too many outcomes and that perhaps the last three outcomes can be cut. Upon a vote, this section was approved 8-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
GC2Y 2000: Love, Pleasure, Friendship and the Good Life as an Area B2 course (Resubmission)
During discussion, it was noted that all of the committee’s previous suggestions had been implemented. Upon a vote, this section was approved 8-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
GC2Y 2000: Orienting To the Middle East as an Area B2 course
During discussion, it was noted that this course also seems very ambitious, and that perhaps some of these outcomes could also be cut, or perhaps the course could be split into more than one section. The topics list could be a 'may include' instead of proposing that all of these topics will be covered. Upon a vote, this section was approved 8-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
GC2Y 2000: The Relationship of Religion and Politics as an Area B2 course
After discussion, the committee decided that the topics and outcomes need reexamining. The committee decided to hold this proposal to the next meeting.
GC2Y 2000: Myth, Magic, and Modern world as an Area B2 course
Discussion focused on well-developed learning beyond the classroom and outcomes mapping. Upon a vote, this section was approved 8-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
