Committee reports were given in the following order:

  1. Executive Committee of the University Senate (ECUS) Ken McGill reported for ECUS.
  • Core Updates-Provost Jordan provided an update on the BOR approval of the core curriculum. ENGL 1102 shall be required under core area A-1.
  • University Senate Website Report-Matt Rogers demonstrated the new look of the University Senate website. The new look of the University Senate website will be active late January.

Motion Text: It is resolved that Dr. Craig Turner and Dr. Elizabeth Combier be formally recognized by this University Senate for their persistent and successful efforts on the behalf of all faculty in the University System of Georgia to create the University System of Georgia Faculty Council.

Motion Text: Approve the Master of Education in Reading Literacy & Language degree program.

Judicial Board Amnesty Policy

Motion Text: To recommend that the Judicial Board Amnesty policy as articulated in the supporting document be adopted and that it supersede the previously-approved policy in Motion 0910.SAPC.002.P Student Amnesty Policy.

Judicial Board Amnesty Policy

  1. Faculty Affairs Policy Committee (FAPC): Craig Turner reported for FAPC. (see attached summary). FAPC has named several workgroups to work on post tenure review, academic year uncompensated summer work, the Deans and department chair review letters that are coming out to students, Faculty Awards, student opinion surveys, and extra compensation pay. The next FAPC meeting is Friday December 3rd.

 

  1. Academic Policy Committee (APC): Amy Pinney reported for APC. APC reviewed the results of   the plus/minus survey. The survey response was overwhelmingly against plus/minus grading. After much discussion the committee decided that forums discussing the plus/minus grading will be held on January 24th in room A&S 272.  A faculty forum will be held at 12:30 and the student forum will be held at 5:00.  A suggestion was made that the forums be videoed and placed on the website.  Another suggestion was made for a FAQ’s page to be developed for information.  APC will begin reviewing the policy regarding emailing student’s grade information, student email systems, and the study abroad policy. The study abroad issues involve faculty pay, faculty visits before study abroad, and historical development for the original policy. 

7.   There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and approved.  The meeting adjourned at 1:35 p.m.
