Call to Order

The Subcommittee on Core Curriculum was called to order by Mary Magoulick at 1:00 p.m. in Arts & Sciences 2-51.

Agenda

The agenda was approved as distributed.

Minutes

The minutes from the March 4th meeting will be distributed this week. The minutes of the March 11 meeting were approved as distributed.

Discussion Items

Meeting with Interim Associate Provost. Mary met with Costas Spirou last week to discuss a process for recertification of core courses. Costas indicated that he would like Tom Ormond to weigh in on the discussion as well. Since Tom has now accepted a new position at another institution, Mary will follow-up with Costas and ask how to proceed.

New Section Creation. The committee discussed ways to engage and support faculty in creating new 1Y and 2Y courses, including possibly sponsoring some workshops geared toward creating new sections.

Annual Report. Mary will send the annual report to the committee. Please review it and provide her with feedback.

Action Items

GC2Y 2000 Captivity and Freedom as an Area B2 Section. After discussion, this section was approved with a vote of 7-0-0.

GC2Y 2000 Cuba in a Global Society as an Area B2 Section. After discussion, this section was approved with a vote of 7-0-0.

Next Meeting

The committee will only meet again if there is additional business. Mary reminded members of the Senate’s transitional meetings and annual retreat.
