Action Items
GC2Y 2000 Relationship of Religion and Politics as an Area B2 Section
After discussion, the committee denied this proposal and requested that it be resubmitted after a revision of the outcomes. Caralyn Zehnder offered to serve as a point of contact between the committee and submitter to discuss concerns.
GC2Y 2000 Crossroads: Connections and Separations in the 20th Century World as an Area B2 Section
After discussion, the committee denied this proposal and requested that it be resubmitted with a reduction in the number of outcomes. The committee also requested clarification of the out of class experiences, and the creation of more specific course outcomes for the writing overlays. The committee will ask one of the College of Arts & Science representatives from the University Assessment Team to serve as a resource for the submitter, and encourage resubmission after these revisions are made.
GC2Y 2000 Equity and Justice: Crossing Perspectives as an Area B2 Section
After discussion, this section was approved 10-0-0. This section will now be forward to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
GC2Y 2000 Hip Hop Culture and Interdisciplinary Studies Methodology an Area B2 Section
After discussion, the committee requested that the outcomes be expanded in the writing overlay section to be a little more specific and assessable, and that the proposal be resubmitted for approval as soon as this change is made. Esther Lopez offered to serve as a point of contact between the committee and submitter to discuss concerns.
GC2Y 2000 This Island Earth an Area B2 Section
After discussion, the committee requested that the outcomes be limited to include only one verb per outcome, and that the proposal specify whether this class will be offered only as a study abroad course or with a study abroad requirement. The committee also expressed concern that the out-of-class experiences were too ambitious. The committee requested that the proposal be resubmitted following revision.
SOCI 1121 Introduction to Sociology for the Global Overlay
During discussion, the committee requested a change to one of the outcomes to make it more easily assessable. Upon a vote, and contingent upon this change, the course was approved 8-0-0. Because this overlay will apply to global perspectives requirement in the core curriculum, this course will need to be forwarded on to the University System General Education Committee for review and approval. It will also be forwarded to CAPC and University Senate as an information item.
Discussion Items
The committee discussed assessment for the University’s general education program. The University Assessment Team will be bringing forth a proposal to strategically reduce the number of outcomes for general education. It was suggested that someone from this committee sit on the University Assessment Team to ensure that the assessment of the core curriculum is considered as part of the assessment of general education, and that there is clear communication from and to all committees involved in this effort.
