The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Committee (CAPC) of the University Senate began its meeting in A&S 2-16 at 10:00 a.m., with Dr. Barbara Roquemore, committee chair, presiding.
Information Item: College of Business-Revision of Part-time MBA in Macon and Warner Robins
The proposal decreases the number of graduate hours necessary for completion from 36 to 30.
Motion: To approve the revision.
The motion was approved.
Currently, the Department of Kinesiolgy offers a BS degree in Health Education with two concentrations: “Exercise Science” and “Community Health and Human Services.” The CoHS proposes to make the first concentration a stand-alone BS in Exercise Science. The CoHS proposes, then to change the name of the BS in Health Education with its remaining concentration in Community Health and Human Services to the BS degree in Public Health and modify the program. The two proposals follow.
Agenda Item: Proposal-College of Health Sciences
Dr. Martha Colvin put forth a proposal from the College of Health Sciences to make the BS in Exercise Science a stand-alone major. The current program is presently offered as an concentration under the B.S. Degree in Health Education. The stand-alone program will enable the Department of Kinesiology to seek external program accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). There is currently only one accredited program in exercise science in Georgia.
Motion: To approve the stand-alone degree BS in Exercise Science.
The motion was approved.
Motion: To deactivate the Exercise Science concentration of BS in Health Education, contingent on BOR approval of the BS in Exercise Science.
The motion was approved.
Agenda Item: Proposal-College of Health Sciences
Dr. Martha Colvin put forth a proposal from the College of Health Sciences to rename the program “BS in Health Education: Community Health and Human Services” to “BS in Public Health.” Additionally, two courses KINS 2313 and KINS 3333 were revised with name changes, biostatistics applications were added to KINS 4813, and two new courses “Introduction to Environmental Health” and “Public Health Administration” were developed to meet missing components of public health knowledge. Both new courses have been approved by the CoHS C&I committee.
Motion: To approve the renaming of BS in Health Education to BS in Public Health with substantial program modifications, contingent on the BOR approval of the BS degree with major in Exercise Science.

Information Item: The Senate committees will elect officers. Members are asked to consider serving as an officer for CAPC.
