  • Charge: To study the impact and implications of artificial intelligence technologies on university operations, teaching, learning, and academic integrity, and to make recommendations for university policies that:
    • Address challenges and opportunities presented by AI technologies
    • Establish guidelines for appropriate AI use across academic and administrative contexts
    • Promote responsible AI integration while maintaining academic integrity
    • Ensure equitable access and implementation
  • Timeline: Two-year duration, beginning with the committee's first meeting in Spring 2024 and concluding with final recommendations by Spring 2026. The committee will provide progress reports to ECUS each semester.
  • Membership: A minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 members will appointed by ECUS to this committee for its two year term. ECUS may change the committee’s membership at any time to ensure the following conditions are meet:
    • At least 5 appointees will be current University Senate faculty members
    • Each college of the university shall have at least one representative, including both the graduate school and the university library
    • Staff Council shall appoint one member to the committee
    • One member shall be appointed by the University President
    • Additional members may be appointed by ECUS as needed from the university community
  • Reporting Structure: The committee reports directly to the Executive Committee of the University Senate.
  • Deliverables:
    • Semester progress reports to ECUS
    • Written policy recommendations with implementation guidelines
    • Final comprehensive report documenting findings and recommendations
    • The committee will follow all University Senate protocols regarding meeting announcements, minutes, and documentation.
